US dry natural gas production climbed 3.5% year over year to a record of about 95 billion cubic feet per day in 2021, driven by Texas and Pennsylvania, which registered output growth of nearly 1.5 Bcf/d each, according to the Energy Information Administration. Meanwhile, the offshore Gulf of Mexico's share of dry gas production was just 2% in 2021, down from 9% in 2010, as aging wells, high costs, hurricane activity and oil-weighted production diminish its contribution.
