ISTANBUL — Thousands of rescue workers were digging through debris in freezing conditions on Tuesday in a desperate search for survivors after an earthquake that has left at least 5,100 people dead in Turkey and Syria, a devastating toll that continued to rise.
Around 23 million people are likely to be affected by Monday’s devastating earthquake and in need of humanitarian assistance, the officials said, citing figures provided by the Pacific Disaster Center, a disaster management organization.

The price of oil was rising early Tuesday as supply concerns were stoked by the effects of the earthquake in Turkey, while there were signs of confidence in strong Chinese demand.
Brent crude, the international standard, traded up 1.9% to $82.51 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. standard, rose 2.0% to $75.57 a barrel.
Turkey’s oil-export terminal at Ceyhan, with a capacity of one million barrels a day, has been temporarily closed after a powerful earthquake struck the country and the northern area of Syria. The terminal transports exports from Azerbaijan and Iraq and handled around 1% of global oil supplies in January.

Linde To Invest $1.8B To Supply Clean Hydrogen To Texas Plant

Linde (LIN.N), , the world's largest industrial gases company, said on Monday it will invest $1.8 billion to supply clean hydrogen to OCI's (OCI.AS) blue ammonia plant in the U.S. state of Texas.
The U.S.-German company said it will supply OCI with clean hydrogen by sequestering more than 1.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, after the expected start-up in 2025.
"Linde's capabilities are already enabling the transition to a low carbon intensity economy," Chief Executive Sanjiv Lamba said in a statement.
Linde said it will build, own and operate an on-site complex at the OCI plant, which will include autothermal reforming - a process to produce low-carbon hydrogen - with carbon capture, plus a large air separation plant.
