Overdose deaths in the US are plummeting. According to new public health data, drug-related deaths fell more than 10% in the 12 months ending in April, a massive improvement from double-digit increases seen in recent years, NPR reported. Researchers say that in states with rapid data collection systems, the declines might be even steeper, up to 30%. They attribute the turnaround to the prevalence of naloxone, which can reverse opioid overdoses, as well as other advancements in treatments for fentanyl addiction. There are still 100,000 drug deaths in the US each year.

WhiteHawk Energy LLC said on Sept. 18 that it had acquired Marcellus Shale natural gas mineral and royalty interests covering 435,000 gross unit acres across southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. In November 2023, WhiteHawk said it had acquired 475,000 gross acres for a total purchase price of $54 million.
The new acquisition adds to WhiteHawk’s Marcellus position, with assets operated by Antero Resources, EQT Corp., Range Resources and CNX Resources. With the acquisition, the company’s fifth in the Marcellus, WhiteHawk said its owns natural gas mineral and royalty interests across more than 1 million unit acres and 3,400 producing wells. The company also holds mineral and royalty interests in the Haynesville Shale.

Nearly $5 million is being given by the Biden administration to Oklahoma’s Caddo Nation and Osage Nation to use to plug abandoned oil and gas wells.
Indian Country Today reported the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma will receive $3,707,129 in program development and implementation grant funding, and the Osage Nation will receive $1 million in program development grant funding.
The Caddo Nation will use the funds to assess up to 20 orphaned wells in phase one of its project. The Osage Nation plans to create an inventory and carry out assessment and plugging activities in the first phase of its abandoned well project.

Venture Global has signed a five-year agreement with Gastrade to regasify about 1.1 million short tons per year of liquefied natural gas at the Alexandroupolis LNG terminal in Greece beginning in 2025. The deal enhances Venture Global's ability to supply Central and Eastern Europe with LNG from its Louisiana plants.
