China and Cuba are reportedly nearing a deal that would allow Beijing to establish an electronic surveillance base on Cuba in exchange for billions of dollars, according to reports yesterday. Such a base would potentially allow China to eavesdrop on communications across the southeastern US, home to a number of military installations, including US Central Command in Tampa, Florida.
Former President Donald Trump has been indicted on charges linked to the mishandling of classified documents after leaving office, according to statements from Trump and sources involved in the probe. Officials have not formally detailed the indictment—more details are expected today. See updates here.
A false report that the U.S. and Iran might be close to a deal on oil exports sent crude oil prices falling more than $3 a barrel before the claim was denied by the White House and the price tumble was stopped.
The phony report stated that the U.S. might ease some sanctions in exchange for Iran reducing uranium enrichment.
“This report is false and misleading,” said a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, referring to an article on the Middle East Eye website.
WTI crude fell $1.11 to $71.42 a barrel, while Brent crude finished down 99 cents, closing at $75.96 a barrel.

EQT Corp. is upsizing its previously announced tender offer to purchase for cash up to $300 million aggregate principal amount of its outstanding 6.125% senior notes due 2025.
The tender offer amendment increases the aggregate principal amount of notes subject to the tender offer from $250 million.
The tender offer is being made upon and is subject to terms and conditions set in the offer to purchase, dated May 24. Tendered notes may no longer be withdrawn, as withdrawal rights for the offer expired at 5:00 p.m. June 7 New York City time.
June 7 was the last date and time for holders to tender notes in order to qualify to receive early tender consideration, which includes an early tender premium of $30 per $1,000 principal amount of notes. Payment for notes accepted for purchase is to be made on June 9.
