The insects have such an acute sense of smell that scientists are now trying to train them to sniff out cancer—and a study published this week shows ants can be trained relatively quickly to do just that (though they’ve only scented human cancer cells grafted to mice so far). Ant diagnosticians would be cheaper and quicker than current diagnostic tools, like blood tests and biopsies, and the researcher leading the study insists that the critters would never need to crawl directly on you to help doctors determine your health status.

Nationally, the total oil and gas rig count is unchanged from last week at 771 rigs. A year ago, 610 rigs were active.
The oil rig countwas down four to 609, while the natural gas rig count was up four, to 160.
The U.S. rig count peaked at 4,530 in 1981. It bottomed out in August 2020 at 244.

The Nasdaq booked a fourth straight week of gains, its longest weekly win streak since August.
