U.S. stocks edged higher on Monday, rising for a sixth straight session as the market built on its gains from the best week of 2023.The S&P 500SPX gained 7.65 points, or 0.2%, to close at 4,365.99. Its six-session winning streak is the longest since June, while the Dow’s six-day streak is its longest since July. The Nasdaq CompositeCOMP rose by 40.50 points, or 0.3%, to 13,518.78, rising for a seventh day for the first time since January. The Dow Jones Industrial AverageDJIA gained 34.54 points, or 0.1%, to 34,095.86. All three indexes logged their biggest advance of the year last week as dovish Federal Reserve comments and Friday’s jobs report inspired investors to dive back into stocks after a rough stretch for the market.

Exxon Mobil’s early foray into lithium brine production is “looking more and more promising,” CEO Darren Woods said in third-quarter earnings. The company acquired drilling rights for more than 100,000 gross acres in southern Arkansas for lithium brine production.
Woods said Exxon has challenged Dan Ammann, president of its Low Carbon Solutions segment, to develop a business plan for lithium production that can effectively compete for capital in Exxon’s project portfolio.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken made surprise stops in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Baghdad, where he discussed getting more aid to civilians in Gaza and suggested the Palestinian Authority could have a “central role” in Gaza should Israel dismantle Hamas’s control in the territory. Over the weekend, pro-Palestinian demonstrations were held in global cities, including a large protest in DC, while Israelis whose family members were taken hostage by Hamas decried the lack of attention on the kidnappings. Influential US senators called on Israel to change tactics and limit Palestinian civilian casualties as the death toll soars.
