ExxonMobil has announced a carbon capture and storage contract with US steel giant Nucor, involving the capture, transport and storage of up to 881,000 short tons of carbon dioxide annually from Nucor's manufacturing plant in Convent, La., beginning in 2026. The deal is Exxon's first with a hard-to-abate industry and expands its CCS customer base to a total of 5.51 million short tons per year.
